An ORCID is a free, permanent 16-digit identifier that distinguishes you from every other researcher with a similar name, and stays with you as you move between institutions. It looks like 0000-0002-1825-0097 and is also written as a link, https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1825-0097.

Where to find yours: sign in at orcid.org/signin where your ORCID is shown under your name on your record page, and in the address bar. Don't have one? Register free at orcid.org/register. Read more at info.orcid.org/researchers.

This field is not required and leaving it blank will not delay or affect your account request. If you do provide it, we compare the public name on your ORCID record against the details you enter here and the record the GUV center holds for your life/guest number, purely to help staff confirm your identity. A mismatch will not block your request.

SSH Public Key Optional

An SSH key is what lets you log in to SCDF systems from your own machine without typing a password. It comes as a pair: a private key that never leaves your computer, and a public key, which is the half you paste here.

You can add one later. Once your account exists, you can upload, replace and remove keys yourself at any time on the SSH key page, up to five keys per account. Providing one now simply means your access is ready sooner.

This field is not required and leaving it blank will not delay or affect your account request. If you do provide a key, you must also provide its fingerprint in the next field: the two are checked against each other, and supplying only one of them will stop the form from submitting.

SSH Key Content (optional) Paste your public key. Only Ed25519 keys are accepted (it starts with ssh-ed25519, or sk-ssh-ed25519@openssh.com for a hardware token). RSA, DSA and ECDSA keys are not accepted. Never share your private key.
Generate one with: ssh-keygen -t ed25519 -C "work-laptop". The comment names the machine the key lives on, so you can tell your keys apart later. New to SSH keys? See How to generate SSH key pairs for step-by-step instructions.

SSH Key Fingerprint (required if you provide a key) The fingerprint is a short checksum of the key you pasted above. We compute it from your key and compare the two, which catches a paste that was truncated or altered on the way here.
Linux/macOS: ssh-keygen -lf ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub
Windows (PowerShell): ssh-keygen -lf $env:USERPROFILE\.ssh\id_ed25519.pub
That prints one line, for example:
256 SHA256:H9CefK+BnTnucBnYVVWbyoFDc/gQQib7OTQRV7dPwYE work-laptop (ED25519)
Paste the whole line, or just the SHA256:... part. Both work. An MD5 fingerprint (ssh-keygen -l -E md5 -f ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub) is accepted too.
PuTTY users: open PuTTYgen, load your key, and copy the value in the Key fingerprint box.
